What is mammoplasty?

Mammoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that modifies the size of the breasts, allowing them to increase or reduce them according to the needs and wishes of the patient.

At Cliniq, we use advanced techniques, using high-quality breast prostheses for increases and specialized procedures for reductions, ensuring natural and harmonious results.

Our highly trained surgeons work closely with each patient to personalize the treatment, ensuring a safe and satisfying experience. Mammoplasty not only transforms the physical appearance, but also raises the self-esteem and quality of life of our patients.

How is mammoplasty performed?

The mammoplasty should be performed in an operating room, with a plastic surgeon and complying with all health and safety standards for the patient. The first thing is to choose the breast prostheses appropriate to the shape of your body, your needs and expectations.

In ClinIQ, the most common and recommended form is submuscular placement: in this way, the prosthesis is located in a “pocket” created under the major pectoralis muscle. In addition, it is considered the safest form, since it radically decreases the incidence of capsular contracture and the appearance of rippling (wrinkles or visibility of the folds of the prosthesis).

During the procedure of a mammoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision in the lower edge of the areola, in the inframammary line or in the lower fold of the breast, depending on the case. The breast prosthesis is inserted and the incision is sutured.

In case of reduction, excess breast tissue, fat and skin is removed to achieve a more proportionate contour and relieve any physical discomfort

After this intervention, dressings will be placed in the incision zone and The use of a special fastener will be indicated during the time determined by the medical equipment, in order to maintain a correct position and avoid bruising.

Mastopexy generates a temporary disability that varies according to the individual patient’s response and the extent of the procedure.

Immediate disability: Rest and pain management is required with prescribed medication. The patient may need assistance with basic activities.

Short-term disability: Patients can resume light activities and non-extenuating work, but should avoid any activity that involves significant physical effort or sudden movements of the arms.

Medium Term Disability: Most patients can return to their normal activities, including moderate exercises and full use of the arms, always under the guidance and recommendation of the medical team.

Periareolar incision:

  • Location: around the lower edge of the areola.
  • Visibility: The scar mixes with the natural color change between the skin of the breast and the areola, making it less visible over time.

Inframammary incision:

  • Location: in the natural fold under the breast.
  • Visibility: This scar is usually discreet, since it is hidden in the inframammary fold and covered by the breast.

The use of specific scar products can help improve the appearance of these. It is essential to protect the scars from the sun to prevent hyperpigmentation and ensure even healing.
