What is fibrosis?

One of the unwanted consequences after surgical procedures in the abdomen area is the formation of fibrosis.

In the field of Plastic surgery, Fibrosis is called abnormal healing of tissues, which thicken and produce hardening in the treated area.

Fibrosis usually appears postoperatively or some months after a procedure with liposuction or laser lipolysis. It presents near the incisions made for the entrance of the cannula, since the surrounding tissues are inflamed and the hardening of the areas near the treated body part is caused, creating bumps or lumps.

The fibrosis It generates an unsightly appearance in the results expected by all patients who undergo plastic surgery, hoping to achieve a flat and toned abdomen.

When a surgical procedure such as liposuction or laser lipolysis is performed, fibrosis can appear for various reasons, the most common are:

  • Fat necrosis: It is possible that there is accumulated fat through which the cannula is inserted, degenerating and forming fibrosis until it is destroyed by the macrophages.
  • Collagen accumulation: Collagen fibers can also accumulate that are displaced by the aspiration of the cannula and that form the fibrous areas.
