General recommendations for patient care
Security first:
- Allow your doctor to be aware of all the medications you are taking, this includes both those you get prescription and the ones you buy without a prescription, dietary supplements, vitamins and therapeutic.
- Make sure your doctor knows about any allergies or adverse reactions you’ve had of the medications you’ve taken in your lifetime.
- Make sure you can read and understand the prescriptions for medications your doctor orders. (Name of the drug, dose, route of administration, for how long you should take them, side effects and drug interactions).
- During your postoperative period and until the doctor authorizes, do not take other medicines, vitamins, supplements or herbs, since they may contain substances that hinder or delay your recovery process, no matter how innocuous they seem.
For no reason do you self-medicate:
- Tell your doctor about your clinical history without exception: previous surgeries, both functional and aesthetic and other history (diseases you suffer from or have suffered, family history, allergies to medicines or foods, etc.).
- Make sure you bring the results of all the exams that have been ordered in the previous consultations.
Educating yourself is essential to learn more about patient care:
- Get well informed about your health and treatment condition, asking all the necessary questions to your doctor and other members of the health team.
- Express your questions and concerns to the treating physician, make sure you get answers in terms you understand, if something is not clear to you, ask again.
- Check with your family member, companion or guardian, the consents for the procedures that they are going to carry out before signing them and make sure that you have understood the information that was provided to you, otherwise, first resolve all the concerns with the personnel in charge.
- Know your duties and rights as a patient (they are displayed in the waiting room and on the clinic screens) if you do not know them, ask or ask to be taught.
Pre-surgical indications for patient care
Below, you will receive the medical instructions that you must keep in mind prior to your procedure:
- It complies with the fasting instruction indicated in the appointment with the anesthesiologist, which is at least 6 hours. The foods you eat before the start of the fast have no restriction, as long as you are not intolerant to a product.

Failure to comply with this indication is cause for suspension of surgery, and hiding it from your doctor can cause serious complications.
- If you take control medications, inform the anesthesiologist during the pre-anesthetic consultation so that he determines how long you can take them. Generally they should not be suspended, even on the day of the procedure, but it will be the anesthesiologist who determines it.
- Present yourself at clinic admissions one hour before the scheduled time for your surgery, with an older companion, who must present, like you, their original identity document.
